I'm trying to download short video files in the mpg (mpeg2) format. I have all the media viewers, including QuickTime (though not QuickTime Pro).

When I click "Download" I get a QuickTime logo in the center of the screen. After several minutes, a large question mark appears on top of the logo. Nothing else.

This happens repeatedly, in both Firefox and Sarari. Archive.org's download help section says MacOS X users should use QuickTime Pro or freeware called VLS. I have downloaded and installed VLS twice.

Maybe I can download this stuff if I can somehow specify VLS as my default media player (if that's the phrase, meaning that mpg files will automatically download in VLS, not QuickTime. I've gone into the Preferences of VLS, QuickTime, Firefox and Safari, as well as gone into my System Preference, but can't find any settings to set.

I know I can download movies because I've downloaded musical videos into iTunes, and last week downloaded a 10-minute mov video from another site.

What am I doing wrong? Kindly advise.

P.S. What a great site this is!

i think you want VLC, not VLS? (at least that's what plays
most everything in windoze...)

can you provide a web page of an item that doesn't work for you?
